Fim da espera: Damages está renovada!

A espera chegou ao fim: Damages está renovada, e o que é melhor, para mais 2 temporadas de 10 episódios cada! Quem deu a boa nova foi o colunista da EW, Michael Ausiello, que confirmou a mudança de casa da série protagonizada pela implacável Patty Hewes (Glen Close). A partir de 2011, Damages sai do FX e passa a ser exibida pelo canal 101 da Directv americana que adquiriu os direitos da série que pertenciam à divisão de tv da Sony. Obviamente ainda não há nenhuma informação sobre a nova trama ou mesmo elenco (calma, Glen Close vai voltar, claro), mas quem se importa? O que interessa agora é que teremos a série por (pelo menos) mais 2 temporadas! A boa tv e nós agradecemos.

Louie: Quando o politicamente incorreto é imperdível

Saber fazer comédia com piadas sobre racismo, minorias, escolhas sexuais e afins é pra poucos. Se são apoiadas na escatologia então nem se fala, afinal, é tênue a linha que separa graça do do mau gosto e são raros os exemplos cujo resultado fuja de apelações baratas e pueris. Nesse contexto, assistir Louie, sitcom que estreou no final de junho pelo FX americano, é ter a certeza de que o politicamente incorreto e o humor ácido e inteligente ainda pode ter espaço na tv e render boas risadas.

Estrelada pelo comediante Louie C.K. (que também produz, escreve e dirige), a série de temática adulta é uma surpreendente novidade dessa mid season, tradicional período que as redes usam para testar novas produções. De forma geral, não há nada absurdamente original em Louie, mas ao combinar com eficiente equilíbrio sequências de standup comedy com dramatizações curiosas sobre a vida e os relacionamentos de seu protagonista, a série se destaca pela ousadia e pela coragem com que extrai graça das mais diversas e corriqueiras situações e conversas.

Centrada totalmente em Louie, um quarentão divorciado que enxerga a vida e suas relações de maneira absolutamente pessimista (mas não menos objetiva), a série faz leituras bem curiosas e divertidas de cenários do quotidiano do protagonista, que apesar de ser um sujeito com senso crítico apurado em muitos aspectos, se revela inseguro e com baixa auto estima em muitos outros, o que de certa forma confere um charme extra ao personagem.

Dizer que Louie vai se tornar um novo clássico do gênero na linha de Seinfeld é prematuro, claro, mas dada a impressão deixada pelos quatro primeiros episódios, dá para afirmar sem qualquer receio que a perspectiva é boa, sobretudo se os roteiros seguirem investindo nas críticas sociais e políticas de forma audaciosa, além de nunca abrirem mão de privilegiar o politicamente incorreto como elemento chave, algo que a excelente participação especial de Ricky Gervais como um médico insensível e totalmente sacana já deixa evidente.

DVDs de Fringe, True Blood, Lost e muito mais por R$39,90!

A dica para quem quem deseja aumentar a coleção de DVDs de Séries é a nova promoção que o Submarino colocou no ar por tempo limitado. Na nova campanha, cada box sai a R$39,90 e dentre as boas opções disponíveis no momento em que escrevo este post estão a 1ª temporada de Fringe e de True Blood, as duas primeiras de The Big Bang Theory, as 4 primeiras de Lost e de House, além de temporadas de Prison Break, Supernatural, Arquivo X e várias outras.

É verdade que alguns DVDs (lista completa aqui) já haviam caído de preço, mas há outros como os de Fringe e True Blood por exemplo, que antes custavam cerca de R$119,90 e que agora estão com 60% de desconto em média, ou seja, se você coleciona ou simplesmente quer ter um box de série específico, aproveite enquanto pode porque a procura não deve ser pequena.

Treme, a melhor série nova de 2010

Não são muitas as coisas que me emocionam, mas boa música e bons dramas apoiados no cotidiano são coisas que figuram facilmente na lista. Nesse contexto, depois de assistir a temporada de estreia de Treme (ainda inédita no Brasil), ficou fácil concluir que eu acabara de experimentar a melhor e mais bem acabada série nova de 2010.

Criada pelos mesmos realizadores de The Wire, simplesmente a série policial mais impactante da tv ao lado de The Shield, Treme narra a história de alguns moradores de Nova Orleans, que três meses após a destruição provocada pelo furacão Katrina, tem que lidar com os mais diversos problemas e dilemas ao mesmo tempo em que buscam no amor pela cidade e sua forte cultura, a motivação para seguir em frente.

Rica em diálogos marcantes e interpretações idem (com especial destaque para as excelentes personagens femininas, diga-se), a série se foca na força do poder de união que a musicalidade de um povo e as singulares manifestações culturais históricas da cidade exercem na capacidade de superação que move e sustenta a continuidade de vidas e hábitos que à princípio poderiam ser vistas como encerradas.

Assim, na heterogeneidade de seus personagens, a série retrata com muita maestria as mais diversas situações e cenários de um grande grupo de pessoas que simplesmente se nega a aceitar a derrota imposta pela fúria da natureza e por negligências governamentais ou a abandonar o estilo bon vivant de ser (vide os ótimos Antoine Batiste e Davis McAlary, este feito por um inspirado Steve Zahn) que a cidade parece nutrir a cada novo desfile ou show de jazz/blues num dos apertados bares da cidade.

Musical como nenhuma outra série o é, Treme no entanto nunca usa o artifício de forma gratuita para construir sua narrativa. Aqui, o som de trambones, saxofones e trompetes aliados a violinos, piano e voz são usados muito mais como elementos que ajudam a apresentar e a contextualizar personagens, do que como distração disfarçada de apelo pop.

Além disso, sem nunca abrir mão de ser inteligente nas críticas urgentes que apresenta sobretudo através da figura do professor Creighton Bernette (John Goodman, excelente), Treme também não se esquiva de evidenciar sem qualquer pudor as mazelas que um evento daquela magnitude deixam à tona numa sociedade que defende com tanto vigor o discurso da justiça e igualdade para todos.

Longe de ser uma série fácil, Treme é uma produção que se sustenta pela sutileza e pela simplicidade, elementos que em equilíbrio transforma-na numa pequena obra prima da tv que a HBO corajosamente apoiou. A 2ª temporada só chega em 2011, por isso, se ainda não conhece a série, aproveite o tempo de espera. O prazer é garantido, pode apostar.

Toy Story 3

Não sei se como empresa a Pixar tem uma missão formal, mas se for algo como ‘Surpreender crianças e adultos a cada novo filme’, dá para dizer que eles a cumprem com louvor renovando produção após produção a magia de divertir e emocionar como poucas produções conseguem. Quinze anos depois do longa que revelou o estúdio, Toy Story 3 surje não só como uma bela aventura carregada de risos fáceis, mas sobretudo como uma experiência sensorial capaz de nos conectar a sensações e lembranças de um período de transição agridoce para cada um de nós: a passagem da fase infatil e lúdica para a de adolescente/adulto.

Dirigido por Lee Unkrich a partir de argumento de John Lasseter (chefe de criação da Pixar e diretor dos dois primeiros filmes) e Andrew Stanton (roteirista dos filmes anteriores), Toy Story 3 tem como um de seus grandes méritos, a capacidade de saber equilibrar com muita competência as piadas ora sutis, ora explícitas (as que envolvem o boneco Ken e a de Buzz em versão espanhola são excepcionais) com os momentos singelos que remetem a valores da essência do espírito humano de forma brilhante e inpiradora, como uma das cenas finais, por exemplo, deixa evidenciada.

Com uma história que se passa dez anos depois do 2º filme, Toy Story 3 narra as aventuras dos brinquedos liderados por Woody e Buzz pouco antes da ida do outrora garoto Andy para a faculdade. Lidando com questões como rejeição e perda e a importância de conceitos de companheirismo e amizade, o filme roteirizado por Michael Arndt (de Pequena Miss Sunshine) coloca os brinquedos numa creche que a princípio é encarada por toda turma como um paraíso, mas que logo se revela mais dura que a realidade de uma caixa no sótão da casa de Andy parecia .

E é naquele ambiente dominado por ‘vilões’ liderados por um urso de pelúcia e até por um brinquedo bebê (o que não deixa de ser uma subversão curiosa para as duas figuras) que o filme mergulha em momentos de absoluta graça e que mesclados aos de um suspense crescente, bem construído e envolvente, transformam a produção numa das experiências mais ricas e, como apontei lá no início, emocionais do ano. A Pixar fez de novo e nós só temos a agradecer.

Nota: O curta Dia & Noite que abre Toy Story 3 e faz uma celebração às diferenças, é sem qualquer dúvida o melhor e mais inspirado já feito pelo estúdio. Pode ser precipitado afirmar, mas duvido que o Oscar 2011 da categoria possa ter outro dono.

True Blood - Ep. 3x04 ‘9 Crimes’

Episódio exibido no dia 11/07 nos EUA e inédito na HBO Brasil até o dia 18/07

Uma das coisas mais curiosas dessa 3ª temporada até agora, é que cada novo episódio parece ser o último com um monte de coisa acontecendo ao mesmo tempo e sempre com aquele senso de urgência instigante. Assim, do fora que Bill deu em Sookie, passando pela tentativa de Eric de culpá-lo pelo esquema de tráfico de V descoberto pelo magistrado, o que esse ‘9 Crimes’ evidencia de forma ainda mais clara é que a trama vai mesmo girar entre o conflito de dois reinos onde não há mocinhos e da cada vez mais conturbada relação nutrida por Sookie com vampiros e agora com lobisomens.

E se já está óbvio que ao dispensar Sookie de forma seca pelo telefone, Bill agiu com a intenção de protegê-la da irascível Lorena e do ainda misterioso interesse do rei Russell (que de fato era quem estava por trás das ações do obscuro Franklin), também fica evidente que sua prevenção pode lhe cobrar um preço alto demais: perder a garçonete para Eric (cada vez mais atraído por ela) ou mesmo para o lobisomen Alcide, que encarando a mesma rejeição da garçonete, tende a se aproximar ainda mais dela. Nesse contexto, mais do que o risco de perder Sookie, as ações de Bill refletem também um distanciamento ainda maior de sua almejada humanização, algo que a aparente fidelidade ao rei Russell o faz abraçar o lado selvagem que a tempos tentava abdicar.

Contudo, o que realmente tem me intrigado bastante na trama da temporada é que papel Sookie terá na inevitável batalha que dividirá os dois reinos de vampiros e como os lobisomens, trabalhando sob influência do rei Russell (e do vício em V, claro), poderão definir vencedores e vencidos lá na frente. Quem terá mais cartas na manga e saberá usá-las com mais eficiência? Que venham os próximos episódios.

Outros destaques do episódio:

- No episódio anterior foi pescoço torcido, nesse um violento soco direto no rosto... O que mais Bill reserva a Lorena em seu cardápio de ‘carinhos’, hein?
- Andy como novo xerife e Jason chantageando-o para torná-lo policial. Alguma dúvida que veremos Stackhouse com um distintivo em breve?
- Tara sendo tão facilmente dominada por Franklin, que é fácil uma das figuras mais intrigantes da trama.
- Jessica como a nova garçonete do Merlotte’s. Garantia de mais beleza em cena.
- E Lafayette, hein? Será que Eric tentará queimá-lo frente o magistrado para tirar o seu da reta?
- Sam dando um voto de confiança para ajudar sua complicada família. Problemas à vista para o transmorfo.
- Alguém na expectative para voltar a ver mais flashbacks envolvendo Eric e Godric disfarçados de nazistas investigando a ‘Operation Werewolf’ na 2ª Guerra?

Os Indicados ao Emmy 2010

Foram divulgados na manhã desta quinta-feira em Los Angeles, os indicados a 62ª cerimônia do Emmy, a principal premiação voltada para a tv. As surpresas não foram muitas, mas foram boas, bem como as ausências e injustiças que sempre tomam forma nessas festas. Dentre as séries, Glee foi a que teve o maior número de indicações (19 no total), seguida de perto por Mad Men (com 17), 30 Rock (com 15) e Modern Family (com 14). Lost, que se despediu da tv no final de maio, recebeu 13 indicações enquanto a minissérie The Pacific recebeu 24! Na principal categoria, a de série de drama, a disputa promete ser bastante acirrada entre Breaking Bad, Dexter, The Good Wife, Lost, Mad Men e True Blood, com ligeiro favoritismo para as duas primeiras, ainda que não se possa descartar a força de Mad Men que ganhou em 2008 e 2009.

True Blood Ep. 3x03 ‘It Hurts me Too’

Episódio exibido no dia 27/06 nos EUA e inédito na HBO Brasil até o dia 11/07

Dizem que prudência nunca é demais, mas considerando o que vimos na trama da 3ª temporada de True Blood até aqui, já me arrisco a dizer que essa tem tudo para ser a melhor da série desde sua estreia. Carregado no gore e ousado como sempre (vide a cena final), ‘It Hurts Me Too’ foi mais um belo episódio da série porque foi objetivo no que mais interessa: definir logo qual será o maior embate da história.

E ainda que não dê para dizer se a narrativa da temporada irá mesmo se reduzir ao conflito que se desenha entre os reinos do Mississippi e da Louisiana (através de seus reis, claro), o que já parece evidente é que Sookie, muito mais que um vértice do triângulo cada vez mais interessante envolvendo Bill e Eric, terá algum papel muito mais importante a desempenhar frente vampiros (e agora também lobisomens), visto o interesse que desperta.

Das subtramas que incluem Jason atormentado pelo assassinato de Eggs, Arlene percebendo que há algo errado com a paternidade de seu futuro filho e Tara se envolvendo com o misterioso vampiro Franklin (a serviço do rei do Mississippi ou do magistrado?), a de Sam tentando estreitar os laços com sua complicada família biológica (que inclui irmão que o vê como ameaça, pai bêbado e mãe dividida) é das mais curiosas porque evidencia uma verdade que o transmorfo ignorava até então: antes só do que mal acompanhado.

Contudo, é mesmo na interação que nasce entre Sookie e o lobisomen Alcide (incumbido por Eric de proteger a garçonete em sua busca por pistas que a levem ao noivo vampiro) e no plano preventivo de Bill de se associar ao rei do Mississippi, que residem os momentos mais marcantes do episódio. Assim, enquanto Sookie aparece mais uma vez bem na figura da mocinha destemida cheia de caras e bocas (o que não é um demérito), cabe a Bill, assombrado pela ameaça de perder a mulher amada (de novo) e voltar a se distanciar da chance de se humanizar através da garçonete, ver seu lado mais selvagem aflorar na bizarra cena que divide com Lorena e que encerra o episódio levantando a dúvida: como esse conflito se refletirá nas ações dele daqui para frente e como isso influenciará a história de uma maneira geral?
